The Dremel Polishing Wheel 13mm (414) is designed for detailed polishing on steel, aluminium, brass, silver, gold and other ferrous metals, as well as hard plastics, stones, glass and ceramics. The Dremel Polishing Wheel 13mm (414) is made to take a semi-rough finish and polish it to a smooth finish. The disc shape is excellent in polishing corners and hard-to-reach places. The Dremel Polishing Wheel 13mm (414) can be used with the Dremel Polishing Compound (421) to remove dull oxidized film and light imperfections from various materials. A Polishing Wheel continually renews its own surface while being used, and it may be used with or without a polishing compound.

Recommended speed settings above

A felt accessory continually renews its own surface while being used.
Felt polishing accessories may be used with or without polishing compound.
When using the 421 compound, use felt or cloth bits, keep the tool speed as low as possible. This allows the compound to gently deposit on the bit.
Apply 421 polishing compound with a felt accessory and remove it with a cloth wheel accessory.
If swirls remain after using polishing points, finish the area with a felt polishing wheel.

Polishing Accessories

Polishing Accessories (414, 422, 429): Ideal for polishing metals and plastics. Using polishing compound (#421) with wheels produces a high luster. Use with mandrel 401.

Polishing Cloth (423E) Made to take a smooth finish and polish it to a high luster. Use with either mandrel EZ402 or 402.

Polishing Compound (421): Use with felt or cloth accessories to polish metals and plastics. Compound will remove a dull oxidized film and/or light surface imperfections. A solid compound.

Emery Impregnated Polishing Wheel (425): Ideal for general polishing of most ferrous metal, stone, glass and ceramic. Use with mandrel 402.

Rubber Polishing Points (461, 462, 463): Blue points for finishing and polishing all ferrous metals. Removes small burrs and scratch marks left by grinding and sanding and cleans and defines grooves. Also effective on many stones and ceramics.

Polishing Wheel (520): Use for light stock removal and high luster polishing of metal and hard plastics. The wheel is impregnated with a silicon carbide abrasive and lubricant, eliminating the need for polishing compound. If, after use, the wheel becomes glazed over, renew it by gently running it against the 415 dressing stone, or a piece of sandpaper. You can also use the dressing stone to reshape the wheel. Oscillate the tool back and forth until the desired finish is obtained.

Additonal Tips and Recommendations

Recommended speed settings above

Keep a light touch, letting the tips of the brush do the work. Too much pressure can break the bristles
Before using on a material, allow the tool with brush to run at operating speed for at least one minute to discharge any loose bristles. Make sure no one stands in front of or in line with the brush
Do not use stainless steel brushes in areas where carbon steel particles may come in contact with the brush (such as steel workbenches) this prevents rust and contamination

Polishing Brushes

Abrasive Brush (538): Dremel's strongest and longest lasting brush. Extra-thick nylon bristles are coated with an abrasive grit for material removal on the toughest jobs. Use for deburring metal or wood and for removing rust and paint. Do not run brush in excess of 20,000 RPMs.

Bristle Brushes (403, 404, 405): Use for light deburring, cleaning, polishing of silverware, jewelry and other precious metals; can be used with polishing compound (#421).

Carbon Steel Brushes (428, 442, 443): Versatile brush for removing rust and corrosion, polish metal surfaces. Deburr and blend surface junctures, clean electrical components.

Stainless Steel Brushes (530, 531, 532): Stainless steel brushes do not cause "after-rust" when used on corrosive-resistant materials pewter, aluminum and stainless steel.

Brass Brushes (535, 536, 537) Brass brushes are non-sparking and softer than steel. They will not scratch soft metals gold, copper, or brass.

Abrasive Brush (538) - Do not run brush in excess of 20,000 RPMs
Remaining Brushes - Do not run brushes in excess of 15,000 RPMs

Brushing Pressure

Remember, the tips of a wire brush do the work. Operate the brush with the lightest pressure so only the tips of the wire come in contact with the work.

If heavier pressures are used the wires will be over stressed, resulting in a wiping action. If this is continued, the life of the brush will be shortened due to wire fatigue.
